Thomas D. Caruso

Thomas (Tommy) David Caurso, Sr., aged 82, passed away in the early morning hours of Monday, June 22, 2026 at Ashtabula General Hospital after a brief illness.   Tommy was born September 20, 1943, the youngest boy to a large Italian American family.  He was a life-long resident of Ashtabula.  Tom retired from Union Carbide/Linde Wire and in retirement worked part time at Lake Shore Park in maintenance.  He enjoyed being out in nature and feeding the ducks.   Dad was a quiet force who was deeply loved by his children and granddaughter, also his companion Judith (Judy) Terry. Tom’s biggest joy was family and friends.  He also enjoyed car shows with his ‘35 Chevy, watching old westerns, like Paint your Wagon and NASCAR.   He and Judy would often go on adventures looking for treasures.  He used to say “That might be worth money some day”.  He had an eye for things and could make and fix everything.  Many might not know he was an artist with the welder, creating many items using old railroad nails, horseshoes, spoons and other odds and ends. He even had some of his pieces displayed at an art show a couple years back.  He was also an incredible cook, he would make meatballs for Emily every time she asked.   Dad was the last remaining member of his immediate family of 6 boys and 3 girls.  They are all together now.  Tom is preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Ann Caruso who passed away in 2012.  His parents, Carmel Mary (Imbronio) and Leo Caruso, His brothers and sisters Dominic, Louie, Freddie, Leo Jr. (Bobby), Teresa, Chuckie, Tina and Bernie.   Left to mourn him are his children, Tom Caruso, Jr. (Michelle Gaughan) and Daughter April Ann Caurso Voelz (Andy Hollar) and his only grandchild, Emily Marie Voelz (Corey Garone). Also his loving companion and sidekick of 12 years, Judith Terry. He is also survived by cousins,  many nieces and nephews and wonderful friends. In the last 3 weeks, while Dad was in the hospital, he had a steady stream of folks visit him on a daily basis.  Tommy and I would like to thank Frank and June Pugliese, Ronnie and Denise Palma, David Huber and Vince Grippi especially, for going up to sit with Tommy to lift his spirits.  There are many more to list, but please know how much it meant to him and us.  A special thanks also to all the nurses who helped dad, you’ve been wonderful!  In accordance with Tommy’s wishes, services will be private for family and close friends. Please feel free to dress in jeans and casual - Dad would want that (no PJs)  Arrangements are being handled by Guerriero Funeral Home. Tom also wished for Ann’s remains to be interred with him at St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
