Phyllis (Galliazzo) Montanaro died peacefully Wednesday, August 25, 2022 at ACMC surrounded by her family. Her children will remember her as a loving, compassionate and selfless person who was always willing to share whatever she had. Her grandchildren will remember a woman who loved nothing more than being with them. They will forever consider themselves blessed to have had such a wonderful mother and grandmother. Her cooking and baking were well know throughout the community and when going to Gram’s house the grandchildren always knew that there were homemade goodies. She looked forward to the 21st birthday of all her grandchildren because this meant they could join her at one of her favorite places “the Casino”. Throughout her life the most important thing to Phyllis was family and it didn’t matter if it was just one member or the entire family that surrounded her.
Phyllis was born in Conneaut ,Ohio the daughter of Frank and Madeline (Armenti) Galliazzo and graduated from Conneaut High School in 1951. On April 4, 1959 she married the love of her life John Montanaro and moved to Ashtabula, Ohio where they would be truly inseparable until his passing in August of 2018. Phyllis was a Manager at Keybank for many years until her retirement in 1991. She stayed active in her community as a member of many organizations including Mom & Dad’s Club, St John’s Gridiron Club, Dandelions Club and Mt. Carmel Choir. She was a devout Catholic and every morning had her rosaries in her hand making sure that those that needed extra prayers would not go without.
Phyllis is survived by her Daughter LuAnn (Kevin) Acierno, sons John Montanaro II and Joseph (Nicole) Montanaro, Grandchildren, Jonathon, Kevin and Antonio Acierno, John, James, Anthony and Ashley Montanaro, Great-grandson Luca Montanaro and Step-Grandchildren, Dwight (Bri) Thompson, Sean and Drayton along with Step-Great Grandson Ellis Thompson. Her Sister Shirley Galliazzo and Sister-in- Laws Diane Glotzbecker and Irene Montanaro along with many nieces and nephews who will forever call her their “Auntie Phyl”.
Phyllis is preceded in death by the love of her life John C. Montanaro, her siblings Jean McCamey, Lucille and John Galliazzo and her parents Frank and Madeline Galliazzo.
Calling hours for Phyllis will be at Guerriero Funeral Home on Sunday, August 28, 2022 from 4 to 6 and Mass will be at Mt. Carmel Church at 10:00 on Monday, August 29, 2022 with a brunch to follow.
