Patsy A. (Rich) Richey, 93, of Ashtabula, Ohio, passed away Thursday, July 11, 2025.
Born in Ashtabula, Ohio on May 7, 1932, he was the son of Joseph (Rich) and Amelia (Muto) Richey. He attended Ashtabula High School and served in the US Army. Patsy married Shirley Butcher on August 28, 1954, and was a member of Our Lady of Peace Parish. He retired from the railroad in 1990, where he worked as a Car Shop Foreman and Wreck Master.
Patsy loved spending time with his family, he had a sharp wit, liked classic cars, country music, motorcycles, NASCAR and Judge Judy.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Ernest, and his wife Shirley.
Patsy is survived by his children; Richard (Suzanne) Jenkins, Suzanne Viall, Jo Anne (Robert) Surbella, Joseph (Wendy) Richey - Grandchildren; Rochelle Surbella, Daniel Viall, Richard (Holly) Jenkins, Gian (Ashley) Surbella, Anthony Richey, Megan (Jody) Bancroft - Great-grandchildren; Dru Hathy, Austin Shreve, Emily Hathy, Berkley Jenkins, Bruin Jenkins, Olivia Bancroft, and Nico Surbella – as well as family friends and caregivers, Vicky Giangola and Dr. Ajay Kumar
The family would like to thank Diana Pinney, the VA nurses, and caregivers as well as the Home Health Service caregivers who are an invaluable service to families in Ashtabula.
Memorial donations may be made to the Ashtabula County Animal Protective League.
Funeral mass will be celebrated on Thursday July 17 at 1 P.M. in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church with Entombment to follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. Military Honors will be conducted by the United States Army. Visitation will be Thursday morning from 11:00 to 12:30 at Guerriero Funeral Home 1550 West 19th St. in Ashtabula.
