Mary (Lolly) Adele (Marini) Monda born on November 26, 1927 a lifetime resident of Ashtabula, died at her home on August 3 surrounded by family. She was the daughter of Clement and Kathryn (Landolfi) Marini.
On July 18, 1946, she married Jack Monda. Nothing was more important than her family which included raising 10 children, her church and her friends. If you visited, you would never go home hungry. Christmas was an important family/friend holiday and she regularly hosted a Christmas Eve party which included upward of fifty family members and guests.
She was a member of Our Lady of Peace Parish in Ashtabula, the Altar and Rosary Society, Catholic Daughters of America, Sons of Italy of America Anita Garibaldi Lodge. For many years, she visited and spent the winter months with her sister, Angie in Tucson. They would regularly enjoy lunch with relocated Ashtabula friends and visit casinos. She enjoyed cooking, traveling, bowling and bocce.
In 2018, Mary fulfilled a lifetime dream of traveling to Italy with some of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was able to visit the village of Collecorvino where her father was born. Her favorite memory of the trip was attending mass at the Church of San Silvestro of Capite in Rome. Upon entering the church, they were greeted by the statue of St. Anthony, Mary’s favorite saint. Prior to the mass, Mary talked with the priest. Kathryn was given the honor to do the readings.
Surviving children are Jackie (Jerry) Hill, Sandy (Jim) Stanton, Jack (Betty Jo) Monda, Judy (Vince) Fienberg, Sharon (David) Spotts, Joe (Kay) Monda, Roseann, Mary Kay DeRosa and Kathryn; son-in-law Brad (Susan) Hebble, 20 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren, sister Angela Joseph of Tucson , and brother Clement Marini.
She was proceeded in death by spouse, Jack; daughter, Janice Monda-Hebble; grandson Thomas Baughman; her parents; sisters Rose Gioiello and Lucille Bishop; and brother Frank Marini.
No calling hours are being observed. Mass will be at Our Lady of Peace Parish, Mt. Carmel Church on Tuesday, August 10th at 11:00 am. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery in Ashtabula. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Hospice of Western Reserve. The family is very grateful and thankful to their staff for being with us during this trying time.
