Lila Peterangelo Obituary

Lila Jane Peterangelo, age 94, passed to the Lord on Saturday, January 19, 2019. She was born in Ashtabula, Ohio to Matt and Jennie (Hietanen) Kangas on March 5, 1924.

Lila was an Ashtabula resident for over 90 years where she married Joseph R. Peterangelo after WWII, and together they started their family. She was a proud employee of the Carlisle Allen company for almost 3 decades, working in the gift wrap department. Lila was a very nurturing and supportive mother, and eventually grandmother. She will be lovingly remembered for teaching the art of baking nissua bread, playing all sorts of games with the grandkids, and providing strong support of her family’s education. Lila enjoyed spending time with her family & friends and would often travel to be with them. The last three years Lila lived at the Grande Village assisted living in Twinsburg, OH where she enjoyed and appreciated the fabulous support of the staff.

Lila was preceded in death by her husband Joseph R. Peterangelo, brother Raymond Kangas and parents Matt & Jennie Kangas. Left to cherish her memory are daughter JoAnn Gavacs and husband James of Aurora, OH; daughter Susan Simpson and husband Frank Dudley of Coatesville, IN; son Mark Peterangelo and wife Kay of The Woodlands, TX; sisters Lee Hawkins, Helen Sommer, Shirley Jarvi and brother Robert Kangas. Adoring grandchildren; granddaughter Halle Simpson; granddaughter Jenny (Gavacs) Wong and husband Felix; grandson Scott Simpson; grandson Neil Gavacs; granddaughter Dawn (Peterangelo) Swanson and husband Andrew; granddaughter Joy Peterangelo; along with numerous extended family and loving friends.

The family will receive friends between 5:00 and 7:00 pm, Wednesday, January 23rd, 2019 at Guerriero Funeral Home, 1550 W. 19th St., Ashtabula, OH. A memorial service will begin at 10:00 am on Thursday, January 24th, 2019 at Guerriero Funeral Home, and the family will receive friends for 1 hour prior to the memorial beginning at 9:00 am.
