Josephine A. Brown (100) of Ashtabula passed away peacefully on April 5, 2026 at the Ashtabula County Nursing Home, surrounded by family and friends.
She was born July 24, 1925 in Ashtabula the daughter of John and Eda (Davino) DiMare.
Josephine grew up in Ashtabula and was a lifelong resident. She graduated from Ashtabula High School class of 1943. She was a lifelong member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel / Our Lady of Peace Parish in Ashtabula. Being involved and attending many of the church festivities throughout her lifetime. She was a dedicated homemaker and was married to her husband Sam. C. Brown in 1946 for fifty years. Josephine and her husband raised two sons Donald and Michael Brown.
She dedicated her life to her family and friends, always being there for them with a helping hand. She learned the importance of family of family from her loving parents. Later in life she got her first driver’s license at the age of 70, joined the YMCA for exercise classes, was in a bowling and golf league and a member of TOPPS Club. She traveled around the country with her husband after his retirement from Reliance Electric. Her favorites were the bus trips they took with friends and family members. Later in life she was a member in a weekly card club with her nieces and friends.
Born into a family of six siblings, sisters Mary DiMare-Tulino , Rita DiMare Cimorell , brothers Ralph (Mary Presciano) DiMare , John (Sonia Soren) DiMare , and Anthony “Farina” (Josie Penna) DiMare.
She is survived by her sons Donald (Bobbie Jo) Brown of Rome Ohio , Michael (Jeanine) Brown of Aliso Viejo , California , sister in law Sonia DiMare of Sarasota Fla. , 4 grandchildren , 7 great grandchildren , two great great grandchildren , 14 nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Sam, her brothers and sisters, in laws Andy and Christine Giannell, and sister in law Josei DiMare and Mary Presciano , brother in laws Carmen Tulino and Victor Cimorell.
Funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday April 13 at 10:30 in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church with Father Phillip Miller officiating Burial will take place at St. Joseph Cemetery.
