Joseph N. Foglio (92) passed on September 2, 2021 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Born on November 4, 1928 in Ashtabula he was the son of Joseph and Stephanie (Colucci) Foglio.
Joe attended Ashtabula High School, leaving after the 11th grade in 1946 to enlist in the Army. A World War II veteran, Joe served in Korea and earned the World War II Victory Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal Japan. Upon his honorable discharge in the spring of 1948, Joe returned to Ashtabula and graduated as a member of the Ashtabula High School class of 1949.
Joe and Genevieve Palumbo were married on September 16, 1950. Joe joined the Ashtabula Police Department, and retired 30 years later as a Detective Sargent. Joe then worked for a year for AMHA in the role of Housing Manager, before joining the Ashtabula County Sheriff’s Department. Joe served as a Detective under Sheriff Bill Johnston and Sheriff Billy Johnson. Joe retired from the Sheriff’s Department in 1993.
After retirement, Joe and Gen spent the summer months in Ashtabula enjoying their family and friends. Winter months were spent in Venice, Florida enjoying the sunshine, their “CANdominimum” and their new snowbird friends.
Joe is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, his daughter Janis (Edward) Williams, sons Gregory (Beth), Joseph (Maria), Dean (Kym), and John (Kathy); eleven grandchildren (Matthew and Todd Williams, Daniel Foglio, Julie (Marco) Zambrano, Gregory Tyler Foglio, Michael Foglio, Stephen (Jennifer) Foglio, Jenna Foglio, Lyndsay Foglio, Christopher (Sacheen) Foglio, Nicholas Foglio, and Gabrielle Foglio; and five great-grandchildren (Jack Williams and Luciana Williams, Ella Zambrano, Eva Foglio, and Sebastian Neal; his sister Audrey Foglio Wood, and brother in-law Terrance (Kathe) Palumbo, niece and caregiver Judi Foglio-Pasqualone and many nieces and nephews.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters Anne Licate, Christine DeAngelo, Dianna Miller, and his brothers Carmen, Andrew and John.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated September 8, 2021 at 12:00 Noon at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 1200 E. 21st Street, Ashtabula. The funeral Mass will be live streamed on the Our Lady of Peace Facebook page. Follow the link on www.olopash.org. Burial will follow at St Joseph Cemetery were military honors will be provided by the American Legion Honor Guard Team from post 103.
Visitation will be Tuesday, September 7, 2021 from 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM at Guerriero Funeral Home, 1550 W. 19th Street, Ashtabula. Due to COVID-19 concerns, the family requests that visitors wear a face mask during all services.
