John R. Rich

John Ralph Rich Sr. age 95, of Sheffield Township passed away on March 6, 2023 at Saybrook Landing in Saybrook, OH surrounded by his loving family, near and far.

                Born June 24, 1927 in Ashtabula, OH, he was the son of Pasquale and Felicia (Penna) Riccio. He married Doris (Campbell) Rich on July 10, 1945 in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church of Ashtabula.  A proud veteran, he served in the United States Army. John worked as a union cement mason for 50 years building multiple bridges, plants, fire departments and churches in and around northeast Ohio. A member of Saint Andrew’s Church, he was active in the Men’s club for over 50 years. He organized festivals, charities, and numerous other fundraisers to help finance Saint Andrew’s parish. John and Doris took part in the ground breaking ceremony and construction of the new church.

                You could always find him on the farm hunting, splitting wood, gardening, and tending to his famous garlic.  He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, attending all of their various activities and sporting events. John was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.

                John is survived by his sister Mary (Rich) Santianna; his sons John (Diane) Rich Jr., Jeffrey (Tammy) Rich Sr.; daughter-in-law Pam (Newbold) Rich; grandchildren Heather (Andy) Manchen, Alicia (Chris) Burton, Jeffrey (Melissa) Rich Jr., Jered (Laurel) Rich, Jessica Rich, Julie (John-Paul) Novak, Ryan Rich, Jamie Rich; numerous great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and his sister-in-law Alice (Campbell) Headley. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Doris Rich, his son Jerry Rich, and many brothers and sisters. The family would like to thank the staff at Saybrook Landing and Bella Care Hospice for their loving and compassionate care.

                Friends and family may attend calling hours from 4pm to 7pm on Friday, March 10, 2023at Guerriero Funeral Home, 1550 West 19th Street in Ashtabula, Ohio. Funeral services will be held at 11AM on Saturday, March 11, 2023 at Guerriero Funeral home, burial to follow at Gageville Cemetery.
