John Harlow Gray of Ashtabula passed away at Ashtabula County Nursing and Rehabilitation Center on Sunday, May 14, 2023, at the age of 80. Born January 20, 1943 in Ashtabula, Ohio, he was the son of Robert and Georgia (Gildersleeve) Gray. John graduated from Jefferson High school and in May 1964 he married Donna Gray (Giraro) at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Ashtabula. He worked for many years at Ashtabula Rockwell Brake plant and later retired from Reliance Electric. John was a devoted husband and father. He enjoyed camping, fishing, motor cycling, and gardening, but mostly he loved spending time with his family. John taught his children and grandchildren to fish, garden, and “how to hold a flashlight” while working on his cars. He’d pick up donuts every weekend and make his rounds delivering them to his family for their weekly treat and time with Dad/Grandpa. His battle with medical issues in recent years showed his courage in facing life challenges with a smile and a kind word for everyone that cared for him. Survivors include his sons, David (Joyce) Gray of Ashtabula and John R. (Jennifer) Gray of Columbus; daughter, Diane Gray of Ashtabula; grandchildren, Nicholas Gray, Cory Gray, Paul Gray and Julia Turley; brothers, Robert Gray of Huntington, MD, Edward Gray of Austinburg, and sister Mattie Ellen Giddings of Vienna. He was preceded in death by his wife and his parents. Funeral Service will be celebrated on Saturday, May 20th at 10:30 am, at Guerriero Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, May 19th at GUERRIERO FUNERAL HOME, 1550 W. 19th St., Ashtabula.
