James E. McCarthy (77) of Aliquippa, PA died of natural causes on September 7,2021.
A former Ashtabula resident, he attended St. Joseph grade school and St. John
High School. Jim graduated from Edgewood Senior High School in1962.
Following his graduation from Youngstown State University he taught and
coached for several years in northeast Ohio. He then joined Ford Motor Company
as a field representative working in Ohio and Pennsylvania. In later years he
worked in a number of sales positions.
A good athlete himself, he was happiest when watching his children compete in
sports and when cooking his favorite recipes. He learned the ways of the kitchen
from his mother and grandmother Matilda “Mary” Ferritto and his Uncle Lawrence
“Fritz” Ferritto, the original owner of the Crow’s Nest bar and restaurant in
Ashtabula.
He is survived by his three children: Timothy McCarthy of Fountain Hills,
Arizona; Tracey Taylor (Ed) of Richboro, Pennsylvania and James “Chip”
McCarthy (Andrea) of Coraopolis, Pennsylvania. His children gave him five
grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers; Timothy McCarthy (Donna) of Sarasota,
Florida and Francis McCarthy (Anna Marie) of Washington, D.C.
He was predeceased by his father, Francis X. McCarthy and him mother, Theresa
“Terry” Sayen. Jim lived with and cared for his mother for her last ten years at her
home in Novelty, Ohio.
A memorial service will take place on Saturday September 25, at 11:00 A.M. in Guerriero Funeral Home 1550 West 19th St. in Ashtabula with burial to take place in St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be on the 25th from 9:30 to 11 at the funeral home.
