Giuseppe A. Scarpitti

Giuseppe “Joe” Scarpitti, of Ashtabula, Ohio, entered into eternal rest on June 24, 2026, surrounded by

the love of his family following a sudden illness.

Joe was born on August 4, 1942, in Roccasicura, Italy. In 1973, he immigrated to the Ashtabula area with

his beloved wife, Anna, and their two children, Addolorata and Ernesto, where they built a life rooted in

faith, family, friendship, and hard work.

Joe proudly embraced many roles throughout his 83 years—son, brother, husband, father, grandfather,

great-grandfather, businessman, and railroad man—but above all, he was devoted to his family and the

countless friendships he made along the way. He had an easygoing spirit, a quick smile, and a gift for

making people feel welcome.

A passionate winemaker, Joe always had plenty of what he jokingly called his “grape juice” aging in the

wine cellar. He loved spending time on the golf course and remained devoted to the game until the very

end, insisting on playing one last round at his favorite course, Maple Ridge Golf Course, before allowing

his family to take him to the hospital. He also enjoyed countless afternoons playing bocce at the

Ashtabula Sons and Daughters of Italy Lodge, where spirited competition and good-natured

arguments—especially with his brother-in-law, Tony—were simply part of the game.

Joe was equally proud of his railroad career, retiring at age 70½ from Delta Railroad Construction after

many years of dedicated service. He genuinely enjoyed working alongside his family and coworkers, who

all knew one important rule: never touch Joe’s thermos filled with his famous “special coffee.”

Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Ernesto and Addolorata Scarpitti; his beloved wife, Anna

(Fasano) Scarpitti, his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Rosa Bellezza and Frederico Fasano; and his

brother-in-law, Cosmo Laurello.

He is survived by his children, Addolorata Scarpitti and Ernesto (Bernadine) Scarpitti, both of Ashtabula;

his grandchildren, Joseph (Brianna) Scarpitti of Brunswick, Ohio, Nicholas Scarpitti of Pine Hill, New

Jersey, and Hannah Longstreet of Cleveland, Ohio; his treasured great-granddaughter, Gianna Scarpitti;

his sisters, Vincenzina (Tony) DiBenedetto of Kingsville, Ohio, and Ida Laurello of Ashtabula; his sisters

in Italy, Maria Teresa and Anna of Isernia, and his brothers, Mario of Isernia and Tonino of Sardinia;

along with many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

Family and friends are invited to call on Monday, July 6, from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon at Guerriero

Funeral Home, 1550 West 19th Street, Ashtabula. A Catholic funeral service will immediately follow,

with interment at Greenlawn Memory Gardens, where Joe will be laid to rest beside his devoted wife,

Anna.

Joe will be remembered for his unwavering love of family, his strong work ethic, his generous heart, and

his appreciation for life's simple pleasures. Whether making wine, playing golf or bocce, enjoying a game

of cards, sharing stories with friends, or sipping his “grape juice” or “special coffee,” Joe lived life with

humor, kindness, and gratitude. The family finds comfort in knowing he has been reunited with Anna and

prays that he rests in the eternal peace of God”s loving embrace.
