Genevieve Cimorell, referred to by most as Aunt Genie, passed away on Thursday Nov. 7th at the Ashtabula County Nursing home and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born on November 2, 1925 and was the daughter of Louis and Jennie (Barone) Cimorell
She was a lifelong area resident of Ashtabula and was known by many as the matriarch of Columbus Ave. She was a 1943 graduate of Ashtabula High School. After high school she attended Ashtabula Business School. Following her education, she worked for several insurance agencies as a customer service representative and eventually becoming an agent. She worked for Jay Otto Insurance until 1960 and then retired from Stouffer Herzog Insurance Agency after working for more than 40 years in the insurance industry.
Aunt Genie was a lifelong active member of Our Lady of Peace Parish (Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church) where she was a volunteer for many events and was the face of the weekly bingo events going on at the church.
She was a member of the Anita Garibaldi Lodge, the Altar Rosary Society, and the Insurance Women of Northeastern Ohio.
Aunt Genie was an Avid Cleveland sports fan and greatly enjoyed watching her beloved Cleveland Indians.
Aunt Genie’s favorite ways to spend time included working on crossword puzzles, baking, and gardening. Her faith was a very important part of her life but not taking precedence over her family who was always her number one priority. Aside from her family, she spent countless hours with her four legged companion and protector, Henry.
Aunt Genie is survived by many nieces: Deborah Peet (John), Barbara Lampela (Robert- deceased) Peggy Savarese (Peter - Dennis Pavolino - deceased), Lois, Gina, Jodi Candela, Karen Juhola (Thomas). She is also survived by many great nieces and great nephews as well as several great- great nieces and nephews.
She was proceeded in death her parents, Louis and Jennie, her sister Bridget, nephew Dennis, brother-in-law Anthony Candela, nephew Louis Candela, brother-in-law Cosmos Pavolino and sister Madeline Candela.
Calling hours will be observed on Tuesday November 12 from 4:00-6:00 and a funeral mass and burial will be held on Wednesday November 13th at 10:00am at Our Lady of Peace Parish.
