Daniel Mulligan Obituary

Daniel Dale Mulligan died at his home in Huron, Ohio, on Monday January 18, 2021.

Bold, intelligent, and honest to his core, Dan was a man of many strengths.

He is survived by his wife, Sarah (Severino) Mulligan, and their two children, Oliver (5) and Jude (2), by his father, Lawrence Mulligan (Terri), his three brothers, Ken, Tim (Norma), and Steve (Katrina),  Mother and Father-In-Law , Barbara and Stephen Severino, Sister-In- Law, Lisa (Dan) and brothers-in- law Matthew, Stephen (Julie) and Charles (Lyndsay) , and adored by many nieces and nephews. .

A native of Grand Rapids, Michigan, Dan graduated from Grand Rapids Catholic Central High School, where he played football, was on the ski team, and participated in theatre. He was especially skilled at mathematics in high school where he took college-level calculus and differential equations. After a brief hiatus, while following the band Phish around the country in his 1979 VW Bus, Dan graduated from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor where he studied biology. He received his M.D. from the Medical University of Ohio, a fellowship at Ohio State University in Robotic Surgery and became a successful Robotic Surgeon in Urology. Dan performed dozens of complex surgeries every year, some lasting all day using the DaVinci robotic system.

While Dan loved his work, he was most happy hiking with his sons and his dog Simon. He loved being in nature reveling in all of God’s glory. He also loved orchestrating family vacations and cooking his favorite meals.

Dan has now joined his late mother, Paula Mulligan, in heaven, they will both be forever missed. Two sets of funeral services will be held. The first, a private service,  at Guerriero Funeral Home, 1550 W 19th Street, Ashtabula, Ohio 44004.  A second service will be held at St. Stephen Catholic Church in Grand Rapids, Michigan at a time when the pandemic has subsided.
