Cecelia Rose Giannelli, age 98, passed away peacefully on January 2, 2026. She was born on December 21, 1927 in Ashtabula, Ohio to Rachel Pavolino Rose and Anthony Rose.
Cecelia was a proud graduate of Ashtabula High School, Class of 1945, where she was a majorette in the Ashtabula High School Marching Band—an accomplishment she always cherished. On July 26, 1948, she married the love of her life, William F. Giannelli. Together they shared 50 devoted years of marriage until Willie’s passing in 1998.
Cecelia worked as a pharmacy technician at Gray Drug and was known for her strong work ethic and caring nature. Above all, she was a devoted wife, a loving mother to Cynthia and Pasquale, a beloved grandmother & great-grandmother, and the heart of her family.
Throughout her long and meaningful life, Cecelia found joy in baking and cooking for family and friends, proudly sharing her Italian treats as an expression of her love and warmth. She was an enthusiastic fan of Cleveland sports and never missed an opportunity to cheer on her son, Pat, and later her grandchildren at their sporting events and activities. Her favorite pastime was spending quality time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren who were the greatest joy of her life.
Cecelia was preceded in death by her parents, Anthony and Rachel Rose; her husband, William Giannelli; and her siblings, Salvatore Rose, Anthony “Neno” Rose, Marian Lundi, Donald Rose, and Eugene “Hodgie” Rose.
She is survived by her son, Pasquale (Sue) Giannell; her daughter, Cynthia Giannelli; her grandchildren, Mark Bernardo, Todd Weiss, Jenna Mastracci, Rachel Morse, Anthony Giannell, and Alicia Mayer; and her 11 cherished great-grandchildren.
Calling hours will be held on January 8, 2026, from 9:30–11:00 a.m. at Guerriero Funeral Home, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Peace Parish (Mount Carmel Church). Burial will take place at Saint Joseph’s Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Saint John School.
