Anthony Giannelli Obituary

 

Anthony R. “Skip” Giannelli, beloved husband, father and papa, passed away January 12, 2020 after a long illness. 

Born Dec. 27, 1936 in Ashtabula he was the son of Ben and Laura (Regnone) Giannelli

Skip was a lifelong Ashtabula resident and he loved his community. Skip spent 40 years as an electrician with Local 673 of the IBEW and was foreman for Marine Electric. 

As an avid sportsman, he loved to fish and hunt with many trophies and records to his credit.  Skip and his partner Jimmy Giannell were co-founders of the Ashtabula County Outdoor Sports & Recreation Show in the 1970’s.

Skip was one of the founding members of the St. John Gridiron Club and served as president of the organization.  His involvement was hands on feeding the team before games, selling concessions and organizing bus trips. 

Skip was a board member of the Rod & Reel Association, a member of the East Ashtabula Sports Club, a member of St. John Herald Hall of Fame and a lifelong member of the Springboro, PA Volunteer Fire Department. 

Survivors include and his wife of 63 years Ellen, daughter Lori Giannelli (Jim) Mackey ,  Papa Skip adored his six grandchildren, Daniel, Ben, Katie, Alex, Ryan and Taylor (his “mini me”).  He especially enjoyed his two great-grandchildren Ava and Carson , and a brother Ben Giannelli

He was preceded in death by his parents , son Bobby (Barbara) Giannelli ,  brother Andrew Giannelli and sisters Florence Lassen and Antoinette Russell.

The family has established a scholarship in memory of their Son Bob so others may obtain a Herald education.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations are made to the Bob Giannell Scholarship Fund at St. John School. 

Calling hours will be Friday, January 17th from 5-7 pm at the Guerriero Funeral Home, 1550 West 19th Street, Ashtabula with a mass of Christian burial set for Saturday, January 18th at 1 pm at Our Lady of Peace Parrish, Mt. Carmel Church, 1200 E. 21st Street, Ashtabula.  Condolences can be made at guerrierofuneralhome.com
