Virginia D. Matrisciano, 96, passed away from natural causes at Country Club Rehabilitation Campus at Ashtabula on April 29. She was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on October 13, 1923, to Carl and Rosalie (Woodruff) Rose.

Virginia grew up in New Lyme and graduated from New Lyme High School in 1941. She studied court reporting at Ashtabula Business College. Through the years she held positions with the New York Central Railroad and Mt. Carmel School, and she was the executive secretary at Molded Fiber Glass Company. In her nineties she was still doing proofreading for friends, among them the Rev. Glen Warner. Her hobbies included needlework and sewing. In recent years she hemmed and gave away 225 fleece throws. She enjoyed music (including playing the piano and the organ), writing, family history, word puzzles, and time spent with family.  She was an active member of the Second Congregational Church in Ashtabula.

Virginia married George C. Matrisciano in 1947, and together they raised four children. They lived in Ashtabula until 1987, then moved to Stow. Widowed, Virginia moved back to Ashtabula in 2005 and lived at Willowbrook until 2019.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, an infant son named Charles, and her brother, Donald C. Rose.

She is survived by a son, George G. (Ronni) of Ashtabula, and three daughters: Jane Matrisciano of Readfield, Maine; Lynne (David) Crawford of Champion; and Betsy King of Orlando, Florida. She leaves six beloved grandchildren: Tyler Matrisciano of Ashtabula; Todd (Tina) Matrisciano of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Deanna (Jake) Henkle of Dublin, Ohio; Jamie Edwards of Readfield, Maine; Maddy Edwards and fiancé Alan Mann of Portland, Maine; and Natalie (Scott) Pratt of Clermont, Florida; as well as six great-grandchildren: Emma, Gianna, Sophia, and Anna Matrisciano and Jackson and Deacon Henkle.

The family would like to thank Peggy Oneal and Teresa Krumins for their kindness to Virginia in recent years, and Country Club staff and Bella Care Hospice for their care at the end of her life.  Memorial contributions can be made to the Second Congregational Church (319 Lake Ave. Ashtabula 44004) or the American Cancer Society (5555 Franz Rd.
