Stanley A. Dewees (72) OF Geneva died on September 19, 2019 at home. Born June 5, 1947 in Munday, West Virginia, he was the son of Alfred and Arlene (Belt) Dewees. "Stanley Alfred Dewees; devoted Christian, loving father, husband, brother, son, uncle, friend, and respected and respectful community member passed away unexpectedly at his long-time home in Geneva, Ohio. Stan will be deeply missed by all who had the blessings to meet, converse, and share fellowship with him.  As he has always done, with extraordinary strength and spirit, he will continue to watch over, protect, guide, and support his loved ones in our journey through this world, until we are able to be in company with him again. Stan enjoyed the simple things and he showed others how to appreciate the simple things with him.  Getting his kids to church; spending time with Grandma and Grandpa; watching football; playing catch with his dog Boss Dog; doing chores around the house; being in tune with nature; taking strolls and long, slow drives with a near-empty gas tank; going out for ice cream; assisting with unfinished homework; fixing up cars; encouraging each of us to work harder; yelling and cheering about various Cleveland sports teams; being with his church family; always finding something  to learn about; celebrating the holidays; and having genuine conversations by being a good listener– that was life at its best for Stan and he unselfishly shared it with those he cared about and those who cared about him. Stan's character is evidenced by his service to his country in the US Army and his service to God as a Deacon at First Baptist Church in Ashtabula, Ohio.  Of special note, Stan was a proud and inspirational Grandpa, with nine grandchildren:  Alicia, Nick, Jessica, Grace, Troy, Serenity, Mika, Hana, and Kaia. All who knew Stan felt his presence and were made better by his support.  Stan was there whenever others needed him, and even before others knew they needed him.  He was the caretaker.  His keen mind and incredible intelligence were combined with a gentle heart and a loving soul.  He was a helper and a giver.  He helped everyone and made us all better. With any life, there are good times and challenging times- Stan had the awareness to relish the good and never give in to the bad; he overcame the worries of life with a boldness that remained humble.  He made the best of every situation and made the situations better for others. He brought his children up right; surrounded by the love of God and family.  He blended compassion and warmth with knowing how to teach discipline.  Even though many miles were geographically between Stan and members of his family over the years, everyone, no matter how far or near, felt his loving embrace.  Stan was cherished as a sounding board, always willing and able to be a giver of supportive, uplifting advice.  He wanted the best for others and his family.  He was willing to let his children make mistakes; in order to let them grow.  He lived his life supporting the dreams of his family.  In spirit now, he will continue to walk with us and keep us on God's path.

After the overwhelming loss of two children and the hurt felt by the passing of other loved ones, Stan knew how to give comfort and what needed to be done.  He knew there would be signs to watch for as our loved ones in the Next Life look over us.  There would be signs all around to show those of us remaining in the world that our Loved ones have moved to a better Place ahead.  We will do well to heed his advice and look for the signs he will send to us; the reminders of what is truly important; until we can have our treasured talks with him again. He shared his Faith with everyone.   He loved and will always be loved." Survivors include his wife Dagmar Dewees, daughter Janet (Jeff) Dewees , son Andrew (H.J.) Dewees , daughter Dawn (Mike) Goyette, sister Teresa Mihalick , brother Rick Dewees, nephew Richard Lee (Lindsey) Dewees , niece Darlene Schmidt , and 9 grandchildren.  He was preceded by his parents, daughter Colleen McCallion and son Jimmy Warren. Funeral service will be on Thursday September 26 at 1 P.M. in Guerriero Funeral Home 1550 West 19th St. in Ashtabula with burial to follow in Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Geneva.
