Philip Joseph Varckette, a beloved family man and dedicated community servant, passed away peacefully on September 15, 2024, in Georgetown, Texas, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Born on June 7, 1953, in Ashtabula, Ohio, Philip's joyful spirit brought warmth to all who knew him.

Philip cherished his role as a grandfather to Decker and Emarie Olsen, creating lasting memories through camping trips, ice cream outings, sporting events, and movie nights. His passion for cooking on the black stone, playing guitar, and sharing lunch with lifelong friends reflected his vibrant personality and zest for life.

A proud member of the Knights of Columbus and a devout Catholic, Philip dedicated over three decades to law enforcement, serving as a police officer and rising to the rank of captain. His contributions to the community were recognized when he was honored as Police Officer of the Year. He also served in various roles, including volunteer firefighter, police department polygrapher, acting city manager, acting chief of police, coroner's office investigator, and Supervisor for the Child Support Division of the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services. Philip earned an associate degree in Criminal Justice from Kent State Ashtabula and graduated from Saint John High School in 1971, where he participated in football, basketball, and track. Phil also taught Criminal Justice during his law enforcement career.

He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Janet (Barlow) Varckette; son Philip Varckette Jr.; daughter Stephanie (Kyle) Olsen; grandchildren Decker and Emarie; sister Patricia Varckette; nieces Sheri Luonuansuu, Jackie (Gavin) Hyde, Rebecca (Adam) Tarchala, Lexi Barlow; nephew Joseph (Haleigh) Reitz; and many other nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Marie (Verdi) Varckette, and his infant son, Michael George Varckette.

Philip was a lover of music, especially the Beatles, and enjoyed shows like "Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives." He found joy in traveling, particularly in Italy and cruising around the world. Known for his ability to bring smiles and laughter to those around him, he was an excellent advisor, supportive father and coach, and a source of strength for many.

Philip's legacy of love, laughter, and community service will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him.
