Obituary

Marie A.  Varckette (91) of Ashtabula died on Saturday at the Ashtabula County Medical Center.Born Nov. 13, 1925 in Ashtabula she was the daughter of Thomas F. and Minnie f. (Desko) Verdi.Marie married the love of her life, George F. Varckette in Ashtabula on July 5, 1947 in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church where she was a lifelong member and of the Altar and Rosary Society.

Marie enjoyed life, her family was her first priority; always worrying about them and making sure everyone was okay. She loved her grandchildren and always wanted to be with them as much as possible, especially her great-grandson "Decker" (the little guy as she always called him). Marie had a wonderful sense of humor, always making everyone laugh. She was our own private sand up comic. Marie enjoyed cooking and entertaining. For many years she would have a yearly get together with her sisters and their daughters at her house and have a feast of food she prepared days ahead. She would even surprise them with a visit from Santa Claus.

Marie was a hard worker. She worked at Ward Products for years, and retired from Nelson Machine. In her spare time Marie liked to go to casinos and watch horse racing and would be ready in a split second for the chance to go. Mrs. Varckette was a cancer survivors for 30 years, showing how strong a women she was.

Survivors include her daughter Patricia Varckette-Beacon, son Philip (Janet) Varckette, granddaughters Sheri Luonuansuu , Stephanie (Kyle) Olson, grandson Philip (Katie) Varckette Jr. , great grandson Decker Olson , step great granddaughter Gabby Bennett, son-in-law Louis Luonuansuu, sisters Molly Babcock , Norma Erickson , brother Wesley (Rosa) Verdi, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents , husband George Varckette , son-in-law Bob Beacom  , grandson Michael Varckette  ,brother Frank Verdi , sisters Katherine Freeborn , Floretta Coursen , Delores Hudok. Gloria Schupska, mother and father-in-law Sophia and Philip Varckette, sister and brother- in- law Barbara and George Woissol.

The family would like to thank Saybrook Landing Rehab for the loving care they gave to our mother during her 3 month residence. Also thank you for the excellent care received in the Intensive Care Unit at ACMC.  Thank You to Hospice for the support we received and attentiveness to our mother and us during this time of need.

Funeral mass will be celebrated on Wednesday Jan. 4, at 10 A.M. in Our Lady of Peace Parish, Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church with Father David Bridling officiating burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be on Tuesday evening from 5 to 7 P.M. in Guerriero Funeral Home 1550 West 19th St. in Ashtabula. Condolences at guerrierofuneralhome.com
