Joseph
Timonere
Mar 20, 1927 — Jan 15, 2017
Last Sunday, January 15, 2017, our mom woke dad with a kiss and took Joe Timonere home with her. Dad passed peacefully in the house he built for his family in Ashtabula where he lived all his life. He was the son of Jenny and Vincent (Jimmy) Timonere who preceded him in death as did the love of his life Catherine (Kay) Timonere.
Joe started life as "a kid from 40 acres" and was a part of the generation of Americans who saved our civilization by their sacrifice and courage in World War II. He enlisted in the Navy and served in the Pacific Theater of Operations on the USS Carter Hall. Joe loved sports, after his honorable discharge from the Navy he was the captain and quarterback for the Findlay College football team. Joe married Kay in 1949. After he graduated from Findlay with highest honors they came home where they started and ran Timonere Insurance on Main Avenue for more than 60 years, an accomplishment lauded by a Resolution from the Ashtabula City Counsel in 2015.
Joe and Kay shared a loving life together until 1987 when she passed away too soon. They loved each other every day of their lives and no doubt are now sharing their love forever. Joe was a member of Mt. Carmel Church and a proud Democrat active in local politics for much of his life.
Joe Timonere is most remembered by his kindness to those he knew and anyone in need. He was a fearless guardian of his family who accepted and loved us no matter the differences between the world he was raised in and our world today. He believed "God brought us together and that's enough for me". Joe lived those words until the moment he went home.
Joe is survived by his three loving children, Jim (Jane), Joey and Marianne, who for many years selflessly and lovingly lived with and nurtured her father through his long and difficult battle with Alzheimer's. Joe had five grandchildren Tony, Cole (Amanda), Forrest, Gwen McIntyre and Aubrey (Matthew) Cicero. He has seven great grandchildren; Loralei Timonere, Seth, Thomas and Lincoln McIntyre, and Dominic, Connor and Teagan Cicero.
Joe is also survived by his four siblings whom he loved dearly, Vincent Timonere, Steve Timonere, Donny Timonere and his sister Theresa DiCesare, who was great help and loving support for years during her brother's illness. Joe also had a host of nieces, nephews and their children whom he loved.
A funeral mass will be held at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church 1200 E 21st St; Ashtabula, Ohio 44004 at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 18, 2017. All are welcome. Condolences can be made at guerrierofuneralhome.com
