John A. Phelps, Jr. born on March 30, 1955 to Jack and Patricia (Gedeon) Phelps in Ashtabula, Ohio, entered into eternal rest on November 10, 2021 at the age of 66. On April 9, 1988, he married Toni Padavick at the Assumption Church of Geneva surrounded by family and friends, embarking on his journey of being a husband, father and grandfather. A 1973 graduate of Ashtabula High School, John quickly began his life's career in the marine industry at Jack's Marine, Inc. in Ashtabula. For over 40 years, along side of his father and brother, John co-owned and operated Jack's Marine, Inc. until 2018. John held his Federal Maritime Captain's License and dedicated his working career to his family, the community of Ashtabula, and the patrons of Jack's Marine, Inc. Over the years, John's contributions to the community included the Ashtabula churches' "Blessing of the Fleet," the Harbor's Santa Down the River, and the Army Corps of Engineers work along the river. John is survived by his wife, Toni of Ashtabula. His memory will live on with his sons, their wives and their children: Andy and Ali, and beautiful twins Violet and Wesley, Jake and Molly, and the forthcoming, Ada Jane. John will be missed by his sisters and in-laws, Debbie and Joe Dragon, Cheri and John Rocco, Rose Phelps, Ralph Padavick, Jeff and Cindy Padavick, Connie and Dave Siedlarczyk, Tiffanee and Jay Warner, and Tracee Sallaz. Additionally, John left an impact on a plethora of nieces and nephews whose lives he touched over the course of 40 years. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Patricia and Jack Phelps, as well as his younger brother, Ron Phelps. Catholic Mass will be on Tuesday, November 16, 2021 at Mother of Sorrows Church, 1464 W 6th St, Ashtabula with Father Raymond Thomas from Our Lady of Peace Parish officiating. Visitation will be on Monday, November 15, 2021 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Guerriero Funeral Homes, 1550 W 19th St, Ashtabula. In lieu of flowers, the Phelps Family asks any memorial contributions be made to Our Lady of Peace in c/o The Flower Fund, 3312 Lake Avenue, Ashtabula, OH 44004.
