Irene T. Takacs, 97, passed peacefully September 21, 2022, at Saybrook Landing. She was born April 1, 1925, in Dévánja, Hungry, the daughter of András Takács and Terézia Nagy. On October 24, 1948, she married Laszlo Takacs, and together they had 3 children: Dr. Judith (Charles) Poluga, Maria (Tony) Orlando, and Laszlo (Julie) Takacs, all surviving her. Also surviving are grandchildren Adam (Kelly) Poluga, Mia (Vincent) Millines, Nathan Poluga, Hope (Steve Brinninger) Poluga, David (Lindsay) Poluga, Krystal (Ricky Fugo) Poluga, Michael Orlando, and Stephen (Ella Roncone) Orlando and Courtney (Derek Apperson) Wallend; great grandchildren Indigo Dennis, Tyler Poluga, Lucas Poluga, Logan Poluga, Evelyn Poluga, Olive Roncone, Rocco Orlando; as well as her brother, Frank Szucs along with numerous nieces and nephews. Irene was preceded in death by her parents; her husband (2001); a granddaughter, Danielle Poluga; a great grandson, Gabriel Stahler; sisters Ida Mayer, Terézia Gula; and nephew Alex Gula. Irene was a devout Christian, and a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Her other passion was food and nutrition and she was a gourmet cook. Everyone always was welcomed and well fed! Irene was a homemaker and considered it the most important of all careers. She loved children and pets and devoted herself to her family. When her husband, Laszlo, became a resident at a nursing home, she was by his side every day from nine in the morning until eight at night for the entire five years even though it was extremely difficult for her physically as well as emotionally; it almost cost her her own life. Irene was a survivor with a very positive attitude and had a highly developed sense of humor that contributed to her tenacity. She had a beautiful voice and sang often; she also had an uncanny ability to do impersonations. She entertained her family daily. She always was thankful that God helped her family immigrate to the United States from Hungary in 1959. She and her husband overcame many obstacles in order to create a new life for their family and were very proud to become Americans. Service and visitation will take place at the Guerriero Funeral Home, 1550 W. 19 th Street, Ashtabula, Ohio, on Wednesday, September 28, 2022. Visitation will take place at 10:00 a.m. Memorial service will follow at 11:00. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery, Ashtabula, Ohio.
