Ida Mae (Colter) Hanna, 100, of Ashtabula, passed away at her home, on Tuesday, April 29, 2025. The daughter of Will and Beulah Mae (Kennedy) Colter, Sr., Ida was born on March 7, 1925, in Louisville, Mississippi.  She married the late John E. Hanna and their family, of then five, moved, to Ashtabula in 1953.

Ida was a lifetime member of Peoples Missionary Baptist Church. She faithfully attended Sunday worship services regularly, was active in Sunday School, and loved singing in the Gospel Chorus Choir. Her tenor voice could always be heard throughout the sanctuary. Her most memorable lead song, "Trouble in My Way", would always have the congregation standing on their feet and clapping their hands. Ida's life was never idle. For many years she was employed by Molded Fiber Glass and later, Zehrco Plastics. When her health started to decline, she worked for eight years at Goodwill Industries. She found relaxation by maintaining her manicured yard, growing a beautiful vegetable garden and canning its harvest yearly.

Ida is survived by her children, Doris (Arthur) Thompson, Terry Hanna, Linda Hanna, and Veronica Hanna, and bonus daughter, Haroldene Scruggs, all of Ashtabula; two brothers, R.V. Colter and Tony Colter of Louisville, Mississippi. Her grandsons, Rodney Thompson, Sal (Daryl) Jackson, Romel (Cindy) Hanna, Anthony (Lyn) Hanna and Joshua Chatman. Great-grandchildren: Ashley Bell, Candice Pollard Reed, Donte Jackson, Janelle Hanna, Asia Hanna, Chelsea Fleming ,Brandon Hanna, Heather Hanna, and April Hanna, Aaron Thompson, Jaquan Pollard, Summer Pollard, Dezrae Clark, Andrew Collins, Ziyah and Gia Jackson. Great-great grandchildren: Maylee, Jackson, and Deondre.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her sons, Billy James Hanna and Willie (Thelma) Hanna, Sr.; seven brothers, Will Colter, Jr. Eddie Lee Colter, Early D. Colter, Billy Hubbard Colter, Elmer Lee Colter, and Elbert Colter; and three sisters, Annie Mae (Archie) Hunt, Willie Mae Colter, and Fannie Mae Colter; grandchildren, Angela Bell, Fonzell Pollard, Willie Hanna, Jr. and Nyera Hanna.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, at 12:00 p.m. at Peoples Missionary Baptist Church 3837 West Ashtabula, Ohio.  Bishop Mitchell Lee Jones officiating;

Dr. German Womack eulogist. Calling hours will be held from 11:00 a.m., until the time of service at 12:00 p.m. Burial will follow in Ridgeview Cemetery in Ashtabula.
