Fred "Freddie" Benedict, a beloved son, father, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on May 16, 2025, at the age of 76. Born on January 31, 1949, Freddie spent his entire life in Ashtabula, Ohio, where he was known for his warmth, humor, and love for sports.

A proud graduate of Ashtabula Harbor High School, Freddie dedicated many years of his life to working at the Ashtabula Harbor  Docks as a Hulett Bucket operator. He also contributed his time and energy to the Ashtabula YMCA.

Freddie was an avid athlete, he excelled in racquetball, basketball, bocce ball, and bowling, and he took great joy in organizing bocce ball  at Walnut Beach.

Freddie was known for his warm and friendly demeanor, always ready with a smile and a joke to brighten someone's day. His kindness extended beyond his immediate circle; he was a familiar face at the Ashtabula nursing home, where he would visit residents, sharing gum and laughter, and bringing joy to those who needed it most. His spirit of generosity and humor will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

He is survived by his son, Chuck Stevenson; his daughter, Amy Thomas; his sister, Jeannie Nerad; brother-in-law, Kurt Nerad; and his nephew and family, Ryan, Lydia, and Emerie Benedict. Freddie was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Sam and Gloria Benedict.

In honor of Freddie's generous spirit, the family requests that donations be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, reflecting his commitment to helping others.

Though no formal services will be held, the family invites all who knew Freddie to remember him in their own special way, celebrating the joy and laughter he brought into their lives. Freddie Benedict will forever be remembered for his kindness, humor, and the love he shared with everyone around him.
