Francis David “Fran” Rozzo, 83, of Mentor, passed away peacefully on September 19, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.

Fran was born on September 22, 1942, in Ashtabula, Ohio, the youngest of ten children. He grew up in Ashtabula and went to St. John's High School, University of Dayton, Edinboro University, and The Ohio State University.

In 1965, Fran married Janet Tarantina, and together they shared more than 60 years of marriage and raised three daughters.

Fran devoted 30 years to Mentor Public Schools, serving as a teacher at Headlands Elementary, principal at Lake Elementary and Fairfax Elementary, and Assistant Superintendent for Personnel before retiring in 1994. Throughout his career, he was dedicated to education and to the students, families, teachers, and colleagues he served.

Fran was also an active volunteer with many community organizations and a proud member of Americans of Italian Heritage in Mentor. A devout Catholic and longtime member of St. Mary of the Assumption Church in Mentor, Fran lived his faith each day through his devotion to family and generosity of spirit.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Felix Rozzo, Sr. and Nicoletta (Guerriero) Rozzo; and his siblings, Congetta (Peter) Zarriello, Joseph (Clara), Peter (Suzanne), Nicolena (Gerald) West, Anne (Dick) Sayers, Carmen, John (Vivian), and Felix, Jr. (Ann). He is also proceeded in death by his dear in-laws, Charles, Sr. and Theresa (Delsanter) Tarantina; and sisters-in-law, Charlotte (Rodney) Hunt, and Louise (Raymond) Volpone.

Fran is survived by his beloved wife, Janet (Tarantina) Rozzo; daughters, Lisa (Vince) Marcopoli, Laurie (Brian) Palmer, and Lynn (Dan) Clapper; grandchildren, Nicholas (Cassidy) Marcopoli, Maria Marcopoli, Anthony (Jenna) Marcopoli, Charlie Palmer, Louise Palmer, and Elizabeth Clapper; sister, Virginia West; sister-in-law, Cynthia Rozzo; in-laws, Joanne (Donald) Holahan and Charles, Jr. (Bonita) Tarantina, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Francis D. Rozzo Memorial Scholarship and mailed to Mentor Public Schools, 6451 Center St., Mentor, OH 44060.

Family and friends will be received from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, October 2, 2026, at McMahon-Coyne-Vitantonio Funeral Home, 6330 Center St., Mentor. Rosary and remarks of remembrance begin at 7 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, October 3, 2026, at St. Mary of the Assumption Church, 8560 Mentor Ave., Mentor. Burial will immediately follow at Mentor Cemetery. Condolences can be made at guerrierofuneralhome.com
