Obituary

Florence R. (Candela) Gideon of Jefferson Road passed away quietly on Oct. 30, 2016. She was 90 years old.Florence was born on Nov. 19th 1925 in Ashtabula the daughter of Gennaro and Vincenza (Connocco) Candela, the youngest of eight brothers and sisters: Joseph, Anthony E., Jerry, Angelo E., Edward Ozzie, Antoinette Nunziato and Ann Sposito. She married Elmer Gideon on Sept. 11, 1955 in Ashtabula.

She began her working career of 60 years with J.C. Penney Co. starting as a sales clerk and managed Ready-to-Wear and the Baby Departments. She spent the majority of her working life, 34years, in the banking industry beginning as a teller at the Marine Savings Bank during and after high school. Later she became a head teller at Farmer's National Bank which later became Society Bank of Eastern Ohio. She was promoted to manager/assistant vice president of the Saybrook office of the Society Bank of Eastern Ohio were she retired. After retirement she continued to work part time as a clerk/cashier at Sports and Sports Inc. and at Hill's Department Store and Ames in the Saybrook Plaza.

Florence loved people, her family and helping others and will be fondly remembered be her family and friends for her sense of humor and easy spirit. She enjoyed, bowling and for many years bowled on the Keglerettes League on Wednesday evening, reading, her family and she cat, Gabriella. Prior to her retirement she was an active member of the Ashtabula Women's Club and was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband Elmer on Aug. 29, 1985, her parents, siblings, and several nieces and nephews.

At the request of the deceased no funeral services will be held, Memorial contributions can be made to the Ashtabula County Humane Society. Guerriero Funeral Home is handling arraignments. www.guerrierofuneralhome .com for condolences.
