Obituary

Ellen R. Giannell, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and sister, passed away peacefully on November 19, 2020 surrounded by her loving family at the David Simpson Hospice House in Cleveland, Ohio.

Born June 6, 1937 in Charleston, South Carolina, she was the daughter of Lester Connor Westbury and Tressa DeFord.  Ellen moved to Northeast Ohio when she was a teenager.  It was here she met and married the love of her life, the late Anthony R. "Skip" Giannell.  Skip and Ellen had two children, Lori Giannell (Jim) Mackey and the late A. Robert (Barbara) Giannelli, Jr.

Ellen graduated from Ashtabula High School in 1955 and later attended Kent State University.

A devoted wife and mother, Ellen was committed to raising her family as a homemaker and stay at home mom.  When her children were raised, she took a job at the jewelry counter at the former Carlisle Allen Company.  Later, she became a Savings Counselor at the former People's Savings Bank – a job she truly loved until her retirement.  Ellen was a member of Our Lady of Peace Parrish, Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. Ellen enjoyed hosting family gatherings, cooking, crocheting, and loved to visit the casinos.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughter Lori, six grandchildren she adored Daniel (Andrea) Luoma, Benjamin Stillman, Katie (Jake Sturges) Stillman, Taylor Giannelli, Ryan Giannelli and Alexandria Giannelli; her sister Betty Craven and great grandchildren Ava and Carson.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Virginia Mixon, her brother Wilson Westbury, her son Bobby and husband Skip.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Nora Boothby, Sandy Ranney, Susie Benedict and the Hospice of the Western Reserve for their loving care of Ellen.

To honor Ellen, a mass of Christian burial will held on Monday, November 23, 2020 at 10:00 am at Our Lady of Peace Parrish, Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 1200 East 21st Street, Ashtabula, Ohio with the Reverend Father Raymond Thomas officiating.  The mass will be live streamed on the Our Lady of Peace Facebook page and webpage.  The link is http://www.olapash.org/.   Burial will be in Saint Joseph Cemetery, 2000 West 19th Street, Ashtabula, following the mass.  There will be no calling hours observed.
