Danial J.
Atzemis
Feb 19, 1942 — Jun 19, 2026
Ashtabula
Danial James Atzemis, 84, passed away on June 19, 2026 at Saybrook Landing.
Born in Ashtabula, Ohio, on February 19, 1942, Danny was the son of James and Emmaline (Kuhn) Atzemis. He graduated from Harbor High School in 1960 and joyfully spent his high school years with Danny and the Spinners, disc jockeying local dances and record hops. He went on to obtain a professional disc jockey license for AM/FM radio and worked at several radio stations before proudly serving in the United States Air Force.
Danny worked at the family business, Jimmy's Bakery, and later owned Danny's Donuts in Saybrook Plaza. He also worked for the City of Ashtabula in Public Works and spent 24 years at Reliance Electric. After retirement from Reliance, Danny stayed busy working in retail sales and he owned and operated a rubber stamp business, Ameristamp Manufacturing.
He especially enjoyed visiting with family and friends, drinking coffee and socializing around the kitchen table. Danny was often seen sitting outside on the porch, taking in the fresh air and keeping a close watch on the neighborhood. He and his wife, Mary Lou, always had an open door, greeting guests daily with laughter and an abundance of delicious cookies.
Danny is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 58 years, Mary Lou (Ray) Atzemis; his daughter, Marcia (Rob) Fortune; his son, Michael (Tina Newsome) Atzemis; his daughter-in-law, Jennifer Atzemis; his grandchildren, Paige (Que Gray) Atzemis, Austin Atzemis, Matthew Atzemis, and Kaitlyn Flint; his great-grandchildren, Dominic Zavala, Karter Gray, Danial Atzemis, and James Atzemis; and his brothers, James (Sue) Atzemis and Paul (Lois) Atzemis.
He was preceded in death by his son, Mark Atzemis; his parents, James and Emmaline Atzemis; his in-laws, Joseph and Lucy Ray; his sister, Emmaline "Patsy" Ensman; and his brother, Ted Atzemis.
