Ashtabula – Bertha M. (Gerren) Bartone, 87, a lifelong resident of Ashtabula, passed awaypeacefully on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, at Ashtabula Regional Medical Center.

Bertha was born on August 9, 1939, in Ashtabula, the daughter of Mary (Collette) Raffenaud  and Walter Gerren. She graduated from Ashtabula High School in 1957 and went on tograduate from Ashtabula Cosmetology School. Bertha proudly worked as a beautician for more than 50 years, forming many lasting friendships throughout her career.On August 20 th , 1960, she married the love of her life, John C. Bartone, with whom she shared 43 years of marriage.  

Bertha was loved and well respected throughout the community. She had a wonderful sense of humor and could always make people laugh. She had a special way of ending every  conversation with a joke. Bertha was the life of the party, a light in every dark room, and   someone who led with her heart. She always put others before herself and had a genuine  love for everyone around her. A devoted Catholic, Bertha’s greatest joy was her family and friends. She treasured the time  she spent with her children, grandchildren, extended family, and friends. Her love, laughter, and unforgettable personality will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. 

Bertha is survived by her son, John (Robin) Bartone; her daughter, Tonja; her grandchildren, Tyler Bartone, LeAnna Bartone, JC Bartone, and Francesca Amato; her great‑grandson, Giovanni; her brothers, Pete Raffenaud (Marcella), Jerry Raffenaud, and Richard Carlo (Peggy); sisters-in-law Judy Bartone and Jean Gerren as well as many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John C . Bartone; her mother, Mary; her father, Walter; and her brother, Walter.  Bertha is now reunited with her beloved husband, John, and the family members who went  before her. We can only imagine that she has already filled Heaven with her laughter and is telling God and all the angels one of her wonderful jokes.

Funeral Service will be on Friday Aug. 14 , 2026 at 7 P.M. in Guerriero Funeral Home. 1550 West 19 St. in Ashtabula. Visitation will be Friday evening from 5 to 7 at funeral home. Burial will take place in St. Joseph Cemetery.
