Anthony P. "Spud" Paulchel (89) of Ashtabula died on Tuesday evening at the Ashtabula County Medical Center with his spouse at his side.
Born Jan. 25, 1927 in Ashtabula he was the son of Cosmos and Angeline (Carlo) Paulchel.
Anthony graduated from Ashtabula High School Class of 1944. He was a veteran of the United States Army where he served as a military police officer in Hawaii and earned the U.S. Victory Medal. Spud worked for the New York Central Railroad and retired from the United States Postal Service with over 30 years' service. He was a PGA pro and worked at Madison Country Club, Thunder Hill and was the manager of Village Green Golf Course in North Kingsville for 20 years. He was an avid bowler at Lake Shore Lanes and enjoyed spending his winters in Fla.
Anthony was a member of Our Lady of Peace Parish, Mt. Carmel Church, San Marco Parish in Marco Island Fla., Elks Club, and a lifelong member of the Letter Carriers Union.
Survivors include his spouse Eleanor Knapp- Paulchel of Ashtabula , sisters Dolly (Ron) Luoma of Ashtabula , Angela Luoma of Ashtabula , and many nieces and nephews , step daughter Valerie (Mike) Pflum of Martinsville Indiana , step grandchildren Kristen Howard , Danielle Pope , Michael Pflum , 3 great grandchildren Colton , Hank , and Cash .
He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife Josephine Paulchel, brothers James and Philip Paulchel.
Funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday Dec. 23, 2016 in Our Lady of Peace Parish, Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 11:00 A.M. with Father Raymond Thomas officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery with Honor Guard being provided by the American legion Honor Guard Team from Post 103. Visitation will be on Thursday from 5 to 8 (Today) at Guerriero Funeral Home 1550 West 19th St. in Ashtabula. Condolences at guerrierofuneralhome.com
