Anthony Robert Nigro, 67, passed away the morning of Saturday, July 14, 2018, at Ashtabula County Medical Center after a long illness.
The son of Anthony Peter and Ann (Slanzan) Nigro, he was born on December 24, 1950 in Youngstown, Ohio. Tony was a graduate of Chaney High School in Youngstown, and earned a bachelor’s degree in engineering from Kent State University. He was a Vietnam War veteran, serving his country as a Seabee in the United States Navy.
In 1977, Tony married his devoted wife of 41 years, Angela Marie (Massi), who would provide him with loving care in his later years. He worked in construction as a carpenter and later joined the U.S. Postal Service—first as a letter carrier in Conneaut, Ohio, and then as a project manager based in Cleveland, charged with remodeling post offices.
In his younger years, he enjoyed boating, fishing, golfing, and horseracing. Tony had a kind heart, gentle soul, and great sense of humor. Always willing to lend a hand, he was a beloved husband and dedicated father of two, finding joy in his family and taking great pride in his children. He will be deeply missed.
He is survived by his wife, Angela; his son, Justin Anthony (Brittany Boulton) Nigro of Columbus, Ohio; his daughter, Ashley Marie Nigro of Ashtabula; his granddaughter, Eliana Anne of Columbus, Ohio, and a future grandchild; and his sister, Cathy (Caruso) of Vienna Twp. He was preceded in death by his parents.
The family thanks the staff and caregivers of Carington Park Nursing Home.
