Ralph C. Clay (June 6, 1935- February 12, 2018)
Ralph Clay of Ashtabula went home to be with the Lord and his beloved wife on February 12, 2018.
Born on June 6, 1935 in Grundy County, Tennessee to Garnet and Hilda Hazel Clay, Ralph was the fourth of five sons. He took pride in his athletic abilities during high school, becoming captain of Grundy County High school's Football team. After high school Ralph served in the Armed Forces and was stationed in France, then moved to Cleveland, Ohio to find work. It was there he met the love of his life Deloris Ann Ross, they were married and had two sons, Michael and Mark Clay.
Ralph loved living the farm life as he did as a young boy in Tennessee, so him and Deloris bought a farm in Ashtabula, where they lived beside both sons and their granddaughters. Ralph helped his granddaughters get into 4-H where they all showed livestock animals at the Ashtabula County fair. Ralph and his wife Deloris taught their children and grandchildren the values of hard work on the farm and in their occupations. Ralph was very active in the USWA union retiring as the union president for Millennium Chemicals.
Ralph is survived by his youngest son Mark (Melissa) Clay of Ashtabula, granddaughters Breanna and Brandi Clay of Eastlake, and Brittany Clay of Ashtabula; and younger brother Charles (Dora) of Tennessee. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife Deloris, oldest son Michael (both of Ashtabula) and brothers Elston, George Harris,and Ernest of Tennessee; mother Hilda Hazel and father Garnet Clay, both of Tennessee.
