Carmel Izzi Mackey passed away peacefully on Oct. 17, 2017 at the home of her daughter in Newtown, Pa. She was 94 years old.
Born July 22, 1923 in Ashtabula she was the daughter of Cosmo and Gioconda Izzi. She was the youngest of their eight children.
Carmel was the last surviving sibling of Theresa, Nicholas, Anthony, Joseph, Angeline, Ann, Dorothy, and her niece Joann, who was like a younger sister.
She married her childhood sweetheart, Paul Mackey of the Harbor, and together they lived in Cleveland, Syracuse, Long Island, and Bradenton Florida in their retirement. They also maintained a beloved cottage at Haywood Beach. Both Carmel and Paul may have moved away from Ashtabula, but in many ways it was always home.
Carmel was preceded in death by her husband, Paul who died in 2004, and her youngest son, Matthew who died in 1990. She is survived by her daughters Kirsten Fleisher of Newtown, Pa. and Paula Little of Bradenton, Fla. And her husband Tom; and son Peter Mackey of Bradenton, Fla and his wife Cathie. She leaves behind nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews including Barbara Severino, Judi Foglio Pasqualone, Kristine Maki, Lauri Maki, and Bob Mackey, who live in the Ashtabula area.
Funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday Oct. 23, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. in Our Lady of Peace Parish, Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church with Father David Bridling officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be on Sunday from 3 to 5 P.M. at Guerriero Funeral Home 1550 West 19th St. in Ashtabula. Condolences can be made at guerrierofuneralhome.com
